Ashley Judd Most Recent Star to Reveal Struggle with Depression

Like Eminem and Katherine McPhee, who in recent weeks revealed battling mental health disorders, veteran actress Ashley Judd told Glamour magazine that she struggled with depression for some time. The star of Frida and De-Lovely told the magazine that she received treatment at Shades of Hope Treatment Center in Buffalo Gap in February, a facility that specializes in treating eating disorders as well as addictions. She was there to visit her sister Wynonna, who was receiving treatment for food addictions.

Judd's vocalness about her illness is refreshing. She mentioned specifically that she has seen an improvement in the quality of her relationships since treatment ended. Those around us can often become unwitting victims when depression sets in, so this reported improvement is certainly an important marker of recovery. Hopefully, Judd's example of handling depression successfully with treatment can serve as a guide to other's who are similarly afflicted.
