GlaxoSmithKline Releases New Warning for Those Taking Lamictal
> 6/19/2006 3:11:43 PM

GlaxoSmithKline recently released new information regarding their drug Lamictal. Commonly used to treat bipolar disorder as well as help control seizures for those with epilepsy, Lamictal has been found to have an elevated prevelance of isolated, non-syndromic cleft palate deformity occuring in infants exposed to the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy. The increased occurance was noticed by the North American Antiepileptic Drug Pregnancy Registry.

Bipolar disorder and epilepsy, if untreated, can present significant problems to women and their unborn children. Still, it is important that if you are taking Lamictal, and are currently or plan to become pregnant, that you speak with your physician or therapist.
