Cigarette Sales See Dip

According to The National Association of Attorney Generals cigarette sales in 2005 reached the lowest they've been since 1951. The 4.2% dip in 2005 was the largest one year drop since 1999. It was also part of a long term decline that has seen sales drop off 21% since 1998.

Despite this current and past success cigarette smoking still remains the number one most preventable cause of death. More than 400,000 people died from complications of smoking cigarettes in 2005. At the same time, the CDC estimates that each year, 3,000 people die of lung cancer from second hand smoke.

With all that we know today about the risks and harm that cigarettes can cause, isn't 4.2% not a large enough decrease?
