Sunday February 12th through Saturday the 18th is National Children of Alcoholics Week. According to the
website
:
"The theme of this public awareness campaign, "A Celebration of Hope and Healing," offers the potential for resilience in children of alcoholics if caring adults support the well-being of all children, but especially those who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction in their families.
Sponsored by the the
National Association for Children of Alcoholism
, a whole host of materials are available through the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
's Clearinghouse of Drug and Alcohol Information.
Millions of children's lives are effected by alcoholism every year, often placing them at increased risk for physical and mental health problems. Greater awareness and a concerned community are two of the most powerful weapons that we have in helping these children and their families cope. This week, read, learn and do your part to help out.
