Great Piece on PTSD and the Armed Forces
> 1/30/2006 10:41:11 AM

The January issue of Psychiatric Times has one of the most comprehensive and inclusive pieces that I've seen on the challenges that we will face as a country in helping our soldiers deal with returning to civilian life.  According to the article, there have been 1,275 evacuations from Iraq due to psychiatric problems, as well as 53 suicides among soldiers in Iraq.  These are just the stats for active soldiers.  Many psychiatric disorders like PTSD don't even make themselves known until months later.

This is a complex and multi-faceted issue.  Read the article, Hidden Combat Wounds: Extensive, Deadly, Costly.  And continue to check back here for more stories and information.

UPDATE:
The San Francisco Chronicle has another piece worth a read.  Theirs tells the story of the "Marlboro Man" who famously appeared in newspapers across the country in 2004.  He is now back stateside and battling the inner-demons of post traumatic stress disorder.
