Weighing Non-Drug Options for ADHD - The New York Times reported last week on parents looking for alternatives to pharmaceutical-based treatments for ADHD. There's a lack of solid data about non-drug choices, but many feel that drugs are not an acceptable solution.

Smoking Link to Hearing Loss Risk - A UK based study of over 4,000 individuals provided new evidence that smoking may affect a person's ability to hear high-pitched sounds. 

Self-Representation by Mentally-Ill is Curbed - In a 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court has ruled that mentally ill legal defendants who have been found competent enough to stand trial may be denied the constitutional right to defend themselves. The decision on whether self-representation will be an option is to be made on a case by case basis by the presiding judge.

Lung Cancer No More Common in Women Smokers - Within the population of smokers, women and men appear to be afflicted with lung cancer at similar rates. Among non-smokers, however, women are at a higher risk than men of developing the disease.
