PsychCentral's blog
has a great post today about a study performed at Queen's University which showed that people who had symptoms of mild depression were better able to read the emotions of those around them.
These results were surprising because mild depression is often linked to difficulties with social situations. Instead it appears as if those with symptoms may in fact be more in tuned to their surroundings: “They might be specially motivated to scan their environment in a very detailed way, to find subtle social cues indicating what others are thinking and feeling," said lead researcher Kate Harkness.
