Keys to a Happier Life... in Slough

For any fan of the British TV series The Office, now a popular show onNBC, the name Slough sounds like a death knell.  The dreary, dullBritish town served as the setting for the often torturous series andstood for the sheer life-draining nature of the paper company'soffice.  But now the BBC is giving Slough the happy treatmentas part of a new documentary series.  Using ten steps tohappiness, based on "best knowledge and research", the BBC team, whichincluded a psychologist, a psychotherapist and others who specializedin workplace management, tried to increase the overall happiness of a group of volunteers from the memorably drab town.

While we all have to wait with trepidation for the results, the team has released their ten keys to happiness:

- Plant something and nurture it
- Count your blessings - at least five - at the end of each day
- Take time to talk - have an hour-long conversation with a loved one each week
- Phone a friend whom you have not spoken to for a while and arrange to meet up
- Give yourself a treat every day and take the time to really enjoy it
- Have a good laugh at least once a day
- Get physical - exercise for half an hour three times a week
- Smile at and/or say hello to a stranger at least once each day
- Cut your TV viewing by half
- Spread some kindness - do a good turn for someone every day

Thank you for the list. I have found myself in my own swamp of mild depression. Reading your site and finding this list is a big help to find the pathway out.
