Meth Addiction Epidemic Questioning Could Spell Political Ruin

As with many stories, those on both sides of the crystal meth epidemicpaint two very different pictures.  In today's Globe and Mail,Vancouver's mayor Larry Campbell called the threat of a meth epidemic "garbage." Meanwhile, Gord Robson, Campbell's opponent in this year's comingelection, is banking on the wellspring of anecdotal evidence and thethreat of a growing meth epidemic to sway public opinion.
In British Columbia statistics have driven an increase in crystal methlegislation and spending.  While every addicts' story has a grimundertone, the bottom-line is this: over the last four years, meth-related deaths in B.C. have increased ten fold.
If governments and communities continue to look the other way whilecrystal meth use rises there may be a very difficult lesson at the endof this tragedy.  Larry Campbell might learn his sooner, if hekeeps questioning the epidemic growing under his nose.
